City: New Westminster
The Port Royal Community Garden is the only community garden in New Westminster and located in Queensborough. Currently there are 24 plots, 7’ x 8’ in size and are leased out on an annual basis to New Westminster Residents. There is a $5.00 membership and a $25.00 plot lease fee.
The Port Royal Community Garden provides local residents with the opportunity to access fresh produce and plants; a place to connect with neighbours and share horticultural knowledge and skills with each other. In addition to the leased plots there are two that are used to grow produce for the local food back.
All plot owners form the Port Royal Community Garden Committee and meet on a monthly basis to discuss the operation of the garden. This committee is supported by the New Westminster Parks and Recreation Department. The committee is looking for the development of the second phase to the garden which will see the garden double in size.
