Edmonton Transit provides customer focused, safe, reliable and affordable public transportation services that link people, jobs and communities. The system covers more than 150 regular routes, plus "school specials", a Light Rail Transit (LRT) system, and DATS (Disabled Adult Transit Service). Edmonton Transit's fleet encompasses over 800 buses and community buses, over 90% of which are fully accessible. Most service is provided with full-sized low floor buses, which have a ramp and kneeling (lowering) capability at the front entrance. Articulated low floor buses are also provided on busier cross-town routes. Community buses are smaller vehicles, and are fully accessible as well. Light rail vehicles provide service from northeast Edmonton, through the downtown and across the river to the two south stations in the University area. ETS also offers a specialized parallel transportation service to persons with disabilities (pre-registration required), called the Disabled Adult Transit Service (DATS). DATS uses passenger sedans, vans, and lift-equipped vans for its service. The LRT, transit centres and LRT stations are also all accessible. In 2007, ETS carried over 61 million annual rides on the bus and LRT and over 869,000 DATS trips.
