The Downtown New Westminster Business Improvement Area (BIA) is a not-for-profit society whose mandate is to assist in the revitalization, development, marketing and promotion of the Downtown.
The BIA was renewed in December of 1997 for a 5 year term through a by-law enacted by the City of New Westminster under provincial legislation. The BIA is funded by a special levy on Downtown commercial property owners with a designated boundary and is collected on behalf of the BIA by the City.
The Board of Directors, elected by the Downtown commercial property and business owners, are responsible for the management of the BIA. The programs and activities of the BIA are achieved and implemented through the Board and Committee levels with the assistance of the office staff. The BIA is a strong collective voice for the Downtown Business Community.
